连续三年亮相国际盛会!
广东“检察蓝”保障中国特色“生态绿”
▌Recently, the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) was held in Cali, Colombia. It also served as the 11th meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and the fifth meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilisation. With the recommendation of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the story of Guangdong procuratorates’ efforts to protect the Chinese white dolphin and the bloodwood tree was presented at the China Pavilion during COP16, which highlighted Chinese solutions for biodiversity conservation. Notably, this is the third consecutive year that Guangdong’s procuratorial public interest litigation, which plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the ecological environment and biodiversity, has been featured on the international stage.
▌In response to issues concerning the protection of wild bloodwood tree, the People’s Procuratorate of Guangdong Province initiated an administrative public interest litigation case, coordinated and led the synchronous supervision of municipal and county-level procuratorates, and urged relevant departments to take systematic measures to restore the natural habitats for wild species. Over a hundred new young bloodwood trees and two ancient trees were rediscovered during the work. The artificial cultivation and rewilding efforts have also been progressing smoothly.
