Combating elder fraud to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the elderly
In April, a six-month special campaign was launched by the coordination group for building a peaceful China to crack down on fraud against the elderly. In order to fully implement Xi Jinping’s thinking on the rule of law, the People’s Procuratorate of Guangdong Province carried out the campaign to achieve solid progress in fighting elder fraud. It took prompt actions to set up a leading group and make a comprehensive plan for the procuratorial authorities in the province to crack down on elder fraud, in accordance with the requirements of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate and the commission for political and legal affairs of the CPC Guangdong provincial committee. In addition, it severely combats crimes related to elder fraud in accordance with the law, intensifies efforts to prosecute suspects involved, and focuses on punishing all kinds of crimes that infringe on the legitimate rights and interests of the elderly in the name of providing services, investments and products (including health products and collectibles, etc.) to the elderly, claiming “house-for-pension”, acting as agents for managing “old-age insurance funds” as well as giving “support for the elderly”. Moreover, it spares no effort to recover victims’ losses, which is incorporated into every process when handling relevant cases. Based on its procuratorial functions, it takes solid and effective measures to further enhance the sense of happiness, gain and security of the elderly, and sets the stage for the success of the 20th National Congress of the CPC with concrete actions.
